Earthquake in NYC!

Among the natural disasters that might strike the NYC area, earthquakes rank very low on the list of probability. So it was startling yesterday when I felt that rocking motion. There was no construction going on, and the rocking was steady and all encompassing. As I work in emergency preparedness and response training in the region,  this is the second time in the past couple of years where a potential disaster scenario that we train on has come to life.

With two tornadoes within the past five years, and this earthquake (thankfully no major damage was done), please Irene steer clear of the NY/NJ metro area!
